Dutch authorities arrested a 41-year-old Swedish man about to pilot a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 from Amsterdams Schiphol Airport to Ankara. The suspect used to have a valid commercial pilots license, but had been flying for 13 years with the forged document for companies in the UK, Belgium and Italy, compiling 10,000 unlicensed hours at the controls. Authorities charged him with forgery and flying without a valid license. The pilot, whose name was not disclosed, was said to have expressed relief when confronted and taken off the jetliner. Turkeys Corendon Airlines reportedly said he had been flying for the airline for two years and had “expertly misled the company with his false papers”. The airline said it had been alerted by police and had a pilot standing by to fly the Boeing 737. CNN says “its apparently not the first time the man, whose identity was not divulged, has tried to fly without a license. Investigators in Sweden charged the man several years ago with flying with a fake license, but they did not pursue the case because they couldnt find him, said Anders Lundblad, a spokesman for the Swedish Transport Agency.”
FUNDRAISERS are looking to make a splash for charity. At Tynemouth Pool, in Beach Road, North Shields, around 100 people are set to jump or dive off the five-metre high board as many times as possible in one hour. The event, to be held on March 19 in aid of Sport Relief, aims to reach 1,000 jumps, equalling a threemile free fall and raising over pounds 1,500 for the charity. To mark the occasion, the water in the pool will be coloured red. Coun Glynis Barrie, the councils cabinet member for community services, said: “Im delighted we can support this event and provide the opportunity for fundraisers to raise money for a good cause.

and respond to the urgent needs in the communities devastated by the
earthquake,” said Dan O’Malley, executive vice president of the Americas.

needed funds can reach loved ones,” O’Malley said. “In addition, our
relationship with the American Red Cross makes small cash donations
possible for individuals concerned about these devastated communities.

Lake Tahoes exclusive Brockway Springs lakefront condominium community has completed a multi-million-dollar renovation that includes a complete exterior facelift and new landscaping. The two-year-long reconstruction effort has transformed Brockway Springs — which occupies one-half-mile of beautiful North Lake Tahoe shoreline — into one of the Lakes most desirable residential enclaves.

The 78-unit community is located on the site of the historic former Brockway Springs Resort, much of which was destroyed by fire in 1961. The condominiums feature a contemporary mountain-themed design with colors complementary to the Tahoe palette and finishing features including new decks, gables, stonework, accent lighting, and more. The major renovation brings the condominiums, which were built in the 1970s, up to the exclusive standard set by the custom lakefront estate homes that comprise the projects third phase.

“Brockway Springs features million-dollar-plus lakefront condominiums and multi-million-dollar estate homes on one of the Lakes sunniest and most expansive stretch of Lake Tahoe shoreline,” said Scott Thompson, general manager of the project. “This renovation has returned the condominium component of the project to new condition, with a design that makes the most of its exclusive, one-of-a-kind lakefront location.”

The 78 condominiums in Brockway Springs are privately owned, with a select number available for vacation rentals . The community is the only condominium project of its kind on Lake Tahoe — with all units situated within mere yards of the Lake, and amenities that include a beautiful lakefront pool (heated by the famed Brockway hot springs), lakefront tennis courts, a private beach , private dock with boat access, and its own buoy field. The community also offers a spacious clubhouse for owner-events and a state-of-the-art fitness facility.

“While the Lake Tahoe housing market has been impacted like the rest of the state, most of the condominiums in Brockway Springs have held their values,” said Thompson. “This renovation positions the project for tremendous upside once the economy turns. Many of the units have been completely remodeled by their owners who recognize the unique asset they are part of.”

Ground-Breaking Project Will Grow Customer Bases and Increase ROI for
Content Providers and Advertisers

AMSTERDAM — Irdeto,
a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and
services, today announced that middleware and interactive TV technology
provider Selevision has selected Irdeto’s middleware solution and
conditional access system (CAS) for its new High Definition Personal
Video Recorders (HD PVRs). The HD PVRs, currently in field testing in
Saudi Arabia, will enable content providers to run highly tailored
advertisements – a market first in the Middle East. In addition,
Selevisions HD PVRs will be protected by Irdetos CAS and secure chip
set – another first for the region – to allow the company to
comprehensively secure premium content, while delivering a personalized
experience for consumers, through uniquely selected programs and
commercials.

“Irdeto’s technology meets our needs for a flexible solution that
enables us to deliver targeted content to consumers, while protecting it
against piracy, which continues to be rife in this region,” said Dr.
Raed Khusheim, CEO and founder of Selevision. “Irdetos solution allows
us to constantly enhance our targeted advertising capabilities. Irdeto
was a natural choice for us, given the company’s proven track record of
delivering industry-leading conditional access solutions in the Middle
East. We look forward to expanding our services to other regions, and to
continuing to work with Irdeto.”

According to Informa,
at the end of 2014, the Middle East and North Africa region will have
approximately 50 million multichannel TV homes. This means that more
than 70 percent of households will have either cable or satellite
television. In response to this growth as well as the need to
differentiate themselves to both advertisers and viewers, Selevision
selected Irdeto’s industry-leading middleware technology to empower
advertisers to effectively reach a wide range of viewers with ads that
are directly relevant to consumers.

“The advanced features and functionality that the Selevision HD PVR
offers to consumers and advertisers is a testimony to the maturity that
Irdeto middleware has reached,” stated David Canellos, senior vice
president, sales and marketing for Irdeto. “The Middle Eastern market is
ripe for innovation, and the ability to reach viewers with targeted
advertising is increasingly important, as audiences are progressively
looking for content that is personalized and relevant.”

Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) today announced that it has shipped over 200 million ispMACH® 4000 complex programmable logic devices (CPLD). The Lattice ispMACH 4000 CPLD family provides a variety of design solutions, from glue logic and general purpose I/O expansion to voltage level translation and LED drivers. Engineers around the globe have widely adopted the ispMACH 4000 CPLD as a standard due to its balance of price, power and packaging options.

“Congratulations to Lattice Semiconductor on this significant business achievement in shipping over 200 million units of the ispMACH 4000 CPLD family. Samsung uses the ispMACH 4000 devices in Mobile WiMAX projects because Lattice has consistently met our standards for quality, delivery and price,” said Seung Gu Kang, Vice President, H/W Group Telecommunication Network Business, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. “I appreciate Lattice Semiconductor as a supplier because Samsung has become considerably more competitive in the market by virtue of their devices. I expect Lattice to continue to strongly support Samsung with the best device quality and price for us to strengthen our worldwide market share in the future.”

CPLDs continue to be a popular alternative to discrete digital logic, given the flexible nature of in-system programmable logic and I/O buffers that support a variety of signal standards and voltage levels. Compared to FPGAs, CPLDs offer the advantages of low cost solutions with predictable and very fast timing characteristics. With tiny packages down to 4×4mm, static power consumption down to 10uA and prices starting as low as $0.50, the ispMACH 4000ZE CPLD family is an ideal design solution for battery-powered or low standby power devices such as smartphones, portable GPS products and home appliances like digital set-top-boxes.

“The ispMACH 4000ZE CPLD family offers customers a low price, low power solution that continues to be used at an accelerating rate by both consumer and system focused customers,” said Chris Fanning, Lattice Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Low Density and Mixed Signal Solutions. “Shipping over 200 million ispMACH 4000 CPLDs is an important milestone for both Lattice and the programmable logic industry, because it demonstrates the value CPLDs offer to a myriad of digital system designs. Its important as well to customers, who demand immediate availability and reliability from their supply chain partners.”

THE legal trade is getting its silk and stuff in a twist about Tesco law. Tesco law is shorthand for new rules being considered to allow banks and other big business to get their snouts into the legal trough. This is a matter of great concern to long-established firms such as Hog, Sow Piglet, who want to keep the contents of the trough for themselves. My moneys on Tesco. Here is a bit of fast-forwarding to see how Tesco law will work. Its easy to find the legal shop down at Tesco town. The lawyer will be in a smart pinstripe suit from Tescos FF range. Calvin spent a few years in Geneva, so you could say that the Swiss city has a certain familiarity with po-faced old miserabilists. The kind of people who will no doubt draw some perverse satisfaction from the fact that the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, which kicked off last week, is dominated by austerity, gloom and foreboding. But wait, for the news is not all bad. You might have to look a little harder than before, but in its 105th year the Geneva show is still throwing up exhibits to set the petrolheads pulse racing. The manufacturers might like you to believe they are putting all their eggs in the basket of a bleak future of hamster-powered city cars, but some of them are still flying the flag for cars you would actually want to drive. Okay, you might not be able to afford them, but thats beside the point. Geneva has always been the worlds most aspirational car show, a parade of auto exotica and auto erotica that is unapologetically not for the masses, and here we pick four of the best from whats on offer.
A smartly spoken Edinburgh interloper will break into Glasgows Byres Road at 9am tomorrow. Its not a heist: simply one of Edinburghs most prominent residential property agents – well-known to well-heeled New Towners – deciding, at last, that Glasgows west end is the place to do business. “We have identified that there is a requirement in the west end of Glasgow for the kind of high-end services that we offer. Competitors who have been under pressure will have cut their service levels to customers but weve maintained and improved our levels,” he says, sitting in the boardroom of his Wemyss Place office off Edinburghs once elegant, now traffic-blighted Queen Street. But he remains under no illusion about the precarious state of Scotlands residential property market. “Were seeing very few new- build starts – and thats two years now. We have a diminishing stock in a society where we are needing more new houses. Houses dont last forever and some of the stock – including the state stock – is in need of renewal. Thats not happening.” Mr Rettie says there are plenty of pilot initiatives to get the funding for mid-market and affordable housing started to fast-track that supply, but the major blockage is still about the lack of bank lending to developers and home buyers – particularly first-time buyers anxious to get on the ladder.

IVE only been in Los Angeles for two hours and Im already talking like a Valley Girl. The view from my hotel is so spectacular it deserves the “Oh my gods” I start saying as soon as I look out across Hollywood. Our first hotel, the Andaz West Hollywood, was a treat. On glitzy Sunset Boulevard, it was so cool we didnt have to queue up at the reception desk to check in. Instead, a concierge with a laptop and a megawatt smile whisks you through the process in the lobby. Is he marking time before he becomes a Hollywood star? Of course he is. They all are. Just like the tour guides at Universal Studios where we saw sets for Desperate Housewives, Psycho, War Of The Worlds and Jaws.

HARRY Potter has worked his magic on Floridas struggling tourism industry as British holidaymakers flock back in their thousands. Visitor numbers to the US state – the UKs sixth favourite holiday destination – dropped by four million last year thanks to the credit crunch and the value of the pound collapsing against the dollar. But Floridas new Harry Potter theme park, due to open this spring, is already helping to drive up summer bookings. Trevor Davis, of tour giant Co-operative Travel, says family bookings are up seven per cent compared with last year. “The better exchange rate is also helping families looking for greater value with the relative weakness of the dollar giving UK holidaymakers up to 15 per cent more spending power.”

ATTEMPTS are underway to send military veterans to special “care” units instead of prison if they commit a criminal offence. The key figure behind the controversial move is the SNPs Angela Constance, who represents Livingston at Holyrood. On Friday, she held a high-profile summit at the Scottish Parliament with criminal justice agencies and veterans charities to test support for her proposal, which would see a secure care unit established for traumatised war veterans as an alternative to custody. The MSP believes there is a “moral responsibility” to support veterans both during military operations and when they return home, even if they find themselves on the wrong side of the criminal justice system. Tom Fox, Scottish Prison Service (SPS) spokesman, confirmed that prisoners were not routinely asked if they were in the armed forces. The SPS has estimated that it has 121 veterans in Scottish prisons. Critics, including Mrs Constance, say the SPS figures are an “under- representation”.

Colin Fleming has waited several years to make an impression in the Davis Cup but yesterday he made up for lost time as he and Ken Skupski put Britain in a winning position in their Europe/Africa Group II tie in Vilnius. Flemski, as the pair are affectionately known on the tour, survived a courageous challenge from Dovydas Sakinis and Laurynas Grigelis to win 6-0, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 and put Britain 2-1 up. Having most of his family, plus a travelling brigade of fans from Linlithgow who did their best to drown out the locals inside the Vitus Gerulaitis Memorial Tennis Centre, to support the AEGON GB team clearly helped their cause. But they were fully deserving of their win, even if it took longer than they might have expected. When they raced through the first set it looked as if they would cruise to victory but in the end, the way they shrugged off the loss of the second set to eventually clinch a convincing triumph gave captain John Lloyd more pleasure than if they had breezed home.

For all first-time flyers, Red Bull Flugtag, which means “flying day” in German, is a competition that dares both the brave and the brainy to design, build and pilot homemade flying machines off a 30-foot-high ramp in hopes of achieving human-powered flight. But dont be fooled — this is no ordinary flying competition. While distance is important, creativity and showmanship are necessary to impress the judges. These criteria have inspired such outrageous crafts as a sky-high Popemobile, an airborne outhouse, a flying fire engine, and even a replica of Santa and his sleigh to test their wings at Red Bull Flugtag.

While the sky may be the limit on creativity, there are still a few flight regulations. First off, all flying machines must be entirely human-powered (no external energy sources or stored power, so forget about the slingshots, catapults or anything besides your own burliness). Second, no matter what they say, size does matter — all crafts must be less than 30 feet wide and must weigh no more than 450lbs (including the pilot).

“There mister, there,” shouted an elderly Iraqi man, his quivering hand pointing at a mangled torso on the ground. The bodys severed head and limbs lay scattered around the street and pavement, along with small pieces of smouldering rubber and charred metal. It was all that was left of the car and its driver. Nearby, in another scorched pick-up truck, four Iraqi policemen, whose vehicle had been rammed, lay torn and bleeding from shrapnel wounds caused by the blast. “Welcome to Baquba,” said an American soldier coming up alongside me. “Not much left of the bad guy, eh?” he added casually, before strolling off while wiping the dust from his wraparound sunglasses. What had been billed as a pre-election Peace Day gathering of local leaders and US military officials had just been about to start when the suicide car bomber struck. Baquba has always been a bad place when it comes to violence in Iraq. Suicide bombers are still hard at work there. On Wednesday, three suicide attacks, including one on a hospital emergency room, killed at least 32 people in this northern city, just days before millions of Iraqis prepare to go to the polls in a crucial general election that many believe is pivotal to Iraqs future. In the last few days of campaigning, 52 people have been killed, including three yesterday along with 50 wounded in Najaf after a car bomb exploded. Each and every one of these deaths acts as a stark reminder of the terrible price Iraqis still pay for each faltering political step forward the country tries to take.

ALEX Salmond yesterday urged voters to “rage” against the Westminster machine at the coming General Election by looking beyond Labour and the Conservatives and backing SNP “national and local champions” to fight for jobs instead. Launching his partys election campaign in Edinburgh, the First Minister said picking between Gordon Brown or David Cameron was like choosing between “tweedledumb or tweedledee”. Both planned savage cuts based on a “metropolitan political consensus” which largely ignored Scotland and left families suffering. “I say this to the London parties – there is not going to be business as usual. At this election the people of Scotland will make their voice heard. And they wont be voting just for politicians. They will be electing local champions.” The SNP leader said it would be “good” to have a hung parliament after the election, giving the SNP and other smaller parties greater influence over policy and spending. “The London parties talk about cuts as though it was all about numbers on a balance sheet. But we know different. Behind those cuts will be real people, real services, real jobs. At this election, the choice is clear. We must do all we can to protect those people, those services and those jobs,” said Mr Salmond.
NicOx S.A. (NYSE Euronext Paris: COX) today announces that on Wednesday,
May 12, 2010, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plans to hold a
meeting of the Arthritis Drugs Advisory Committee and the Drug Safety and
Risk Management Advisory Committee to discuss the New Drug Application
(NDA) for naproxcinod.

NicOx submitted an NDA for naproxcinod to the FDA in September 2009,
seeking approval for an indication for the relief of the signs and symptoms
of osteoarthritis (OA). Based on the Prescription Drug User Fee Act
(PDUFA), the FDA aims to complete its review 10 months after submission and
has set an action date of July 24, 2010.

“We believe naproxcinod could become an important treatment option for
patients with osteoarthritis and the planned advisory committee meeting
represents a very important milestone for NicOx,” stated Michele Garufi,
Chairman and CEO of NicOx. “We look forward to discussing the efficacy and
safety data for naproxcinod with the members of the Arthritis Drugs and the
Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committees.”

Dear Dr Cath, MY mate is very cut up after being ditched by his girlfriend. He told me he is thinking of putting a video of himself having kinky sex with her on the internet as revenge if she doesnt take him back. My wife knows his ex and says theres no hope of reconciliation. I feel I should warn her about the video but dont want to betray my friend. Dear reader, ITS completely out of order to put this video on the internet. You need to trust your lover if youre going to make a movie with them – and trust them not to misuse it if you break up.

LEICESTER 35 LONDON IRISH 19 TOBY FLOOD gave England an injury scare as he took a bash on the head during the crushing win over London Irish. But the Tigers fly-half should recover in time to take his expected place on the bench in Saturdays Calcutta Cup clash at Edinburgh. Flood -aiming to shine in front of watching Martin Johnson -lost his chance to impress because of a first-half collision. It was a pity for Flood, who is so desperate to rip the No.10 jersey off Jonny Wilkinsons back. But Flood kicked two penalties and two conversions before going off, leaving his teammates to steal the show. Tries from Alesana Tuilagi (above), Scott Hamilton, Martin Castrogiavanni and George Chuter gave Tigers a bonus point win and stretched their lead at the top of the table over Northampton.

One of them got sacked the week before for wearing George at Asda.

Court Approves “Pre-Packaged” Plan of Reorganization Allowing Company
to Emerge from Chapter 11 with Restructured Balance Sheet

NEW YORK — Penton Media (“Penton” or the “Company”), a leading business-to-business
media company, announced today that it has received confirmation of its
“pre-packaged” plan of reorganization (the “Plan”) from the United
States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The
Court’s ruling allows Penton to implement the capital restructuring the
Company announced on February 9. Penton expects to emerge from Chapter
11 within the next few days with a healthier balance sheet.

The capital restructuring will result in the elimination of more than
$270 million of long-term debt and an extension of the maturity on the
Company’s senior secured credit facility through 2014. In addition,
certain of Penton’s existing shareholders will make a significant new
investment in the Company, which will provide additional working capital
to fund operations and improve Penton’s overall liquidity.

“This capital restructuring puts us in a much stronger financial
position,” said Sharon Rowlands, Chief Executive Officer of Penton. “In
addition to improving our balance sheet, it will allow us to utilize our
resources to make the necessary investments to grow our business and
achieve our long term vision for the organization.”

Penton obtained confirmation of the Plan less than a month after its
Chapter 11 filing. “We accomplished our goal of getting through this
process quickly and with minimal impact on our employees, customers and
suppliers,” said Ms. Rowlands. “These results are a testament to the
outstanding effort put forth by the senior management team, Penton’s
employees, our Board of Directors, our lenders and our outside
professionals. I would also like to thank our customers and suppliers
for their support and understanding during our capital restructuring.”

Complete Transaction Valued at $31.3 Million –

NEW ORLEANS — Global Hunter Securities, a full service investment bank, today
announced it has successfully arranged an auction and sale of the assets
of Bender Shipbuilding Repair Co, Inc., which filed for protection
under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code in July of 2009. The winning bid
from Signal International of Mobile, Alabama, amounted to approximately
$31.3 million. Signal provides marine fabrication services in the Gulf
Coast region.

The assets principally consisted of approximately 40 acres of industrial
land, including 4,500 feet of waterfront on the Mobile River, and
shipyard equipment, including two floating dry docks, and other
associated real property. The sale was administered by the US Bankruptcy
Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

“We are pleased to have facilitated this complex transaction, which
brought outstanding value to the Bender Estate,” said Daniel O. Conwill
IV, chairman and chief executive officer of Global Hunter. “Unique to
this bankruptcy situation, multiple parties had to be satisfied,
including numerous secured lenders with various collateral, as well as
the committee for unsecured creditors.”

The New Orleans based law firm of Lugenbuhl, Wheaton, Peck, Rankin
Hubbard was debtor’s counsel for Bender Shipbuilding.

The PA recommends open pit mining, milling at a rate of 87,000 tonnes per day, conventional flotation, and Outotecs chloride leach process followed by on-site nickel solvent extraction – electrowinning (SX-EW) metal refining. With a base case long term price of $8.50 per lb nickel and $17.50 per lb cobalt (all financial data are U.S. $), the study shows the project has a pre-tax Net Present Value of $819 million using an 8% discount rate. The mine would recover 1.88 billion pounds of payable nickel at an average “life of mine” strip ratio of 0.74 to 1 with an overall refined nickel recovery of 52.8% over 24.4 years.

On average, the project will produce 35,000 tonnes (77 million pounds) of payable nickel metal per year with a C1 cost of $3.34 per pound. The C1 operating cost is defined as the cash cost incurred at each processing stage, from mining through to recoverable nickel metal delivered to market, net of by-product credits (cobalt).

Capital costs for the mine, process plant, refinery and infrastructure development are estimated to be $2.92 billion.

James Bulgers family are understandably the most vocal about wishing to have this information. Its natural that the victims of the ruinous crime will forever be tormented by every aspect of it, and being kept in the dark concerning the whereabouts and activities of the two killers, now 27-year-old men, must form part of that pain. Perhaps, they think, they might have already encountered Venables or Robert Thompson on the street without knowing it. How can they be sure they havent sat beside one of them at a football match or queued behind them in the supermarket? Perhaps the Bulgers unconsciously hunt in the sea of faces every time they are confronted with a crowd, or maybe that subconscious search among strangers is instead a longing to see the face of their own son, now forever lost. Who can be sure? But while their deepest motivation for wishing to be informed about Venables must remain mere guesswork on our part, the fact remains that they do not have the legal right to know. The reason for this is quite clear. Informing the victims family could lead to a breach of anonymity, intentional or unintentional, and the law has been tasked with keeping the new identity of the two murderers secret. So who else is demanding that this law be broken? Ah yes. The Sun newspaper. It wants us to sign a petition to put Venables back on the front pages where he belongs. Oh, and the Daily Mail. And Carol Vorderman, bizarrely, judging by her peculiar, shouty indignation on last weeks Question Time. But why? Well, we cant speak for Vorderman, as she was unable to give an intelligent reason why outing Venables would be a good thing for anyone involved, so the origins of her strident insistence will have to remain a mystery. But The Sun and Daily Mails agenda is at least crystal clear. It would sell more newspapers.

HOW much goodwill is there in hunting? Judging by the amount of time Labour hope will be spent during the election campaign on the importance of the 2004 Hunting Act, which outlaws the use of hunting wild mammals using dogs, we are in for a lot of staged hunt sabotage and the noise of huntmasters horns whenever a Tory tries to cry freedom and demand the imminent return of the fox and hounds. Environment Secretary Hilary Benn, who should be working hard on a new post-Kyoto climate deal, or perhaps revisiting the Governments politically manipulated emission figures which helped back a third runway at Heathrow, is instead accusing the Tories of wasting time on a “so-called sport which allows dogs to rip other animals apart”. This isnt so much dog-whistle politics as waving a scarlet tunic and riding crop in the face of those who feel a soft spot for the hunt sabs. Instead of trying to decipher just what the chief secretary to the Treasury, Liam Byrne, meant last week when he said his department was planning to set out the details of pound(s)11 billion worth of cuts across government, which include NHS savings, quango cuts, and a public sector pay freeze, grassroots constituency Labour folk have been demanding to know the full level of Tory support among MPs and new true-blue candidates for the hunting ban to be repealed.

SALT LAKE CITY — Ten students sat around a table Friday as they silently read material provided for the comprehension section of the statewide test in which they were participating. But their answers werent so quiet. Each student sat in front of a Perkins Brailler, a machine that resembles a typewriter but with only nine keys. By pressing various combinations of the keys, students typed their answers about the readings in braille. Each loud clack of the keys alerted the other students in the room that someone had an answer and was recording it, intensifying the speed at which each performed. Tony Jepson, executive director of the Utah Foundation for the Blind, said this was the sixth year they had hosted the Braille Challenge, which consists of competition in five categories — reading comprehension, braille spelling, chart and graph reading, proofreading and braille speed. Competition is broken down by age group. “We want the kids to learn that they are capable,” Jepson said. “They can do a lot of things, they just need to set their minds to doing it. They can accomplish it.”

marketfriendly, inc. research finds that the conventional molybdenum market model is flawed because it does not account for scrap metal. Forecasts made from such a model will be impaired as a result.

By studying the scrap metal market, one can see that the recession was a scrap dealers recession more than a miners recession: The mills hurt most — American and European — are scrap-based. The mills hurt least — Chinese — primarily use virgin materials.

The ongoing shift in world steelmaking capacity from West to East clearly favors virgin materials, but even the existing scrap-based mills are using more virgin materials in their mix.

Change in the relative usage of scrap in steelmaking will cause change in demand from the miners, above and beyond that driven by the organic growth in the molybdenum market.

The picture is better for the miners than the legacy model suggests.

Wanderport Corp. (PINKSHEETS: WDRP) today released information relating to the American distributor with whom they recently signed a letter of intent.

The US marketplace consists of various sales and distribution channels from large “Do it yourself” retail stores, plumbing wholesalers to dealers and appliance distributors, to name a few. Wanderport, however, is on the cusp of signing a sales and distribution agreement with one who best fills the gap between those market verticals and the American utility companies served by the Rural Electric Cooperatives.

Terms in the agreement should have provisions allowing the American firm to distribute the microwave energy tank-less water heater bearing their own private label brand water heater presently distributed throughout Americas Rural Electric Cooperatives. They would also distribute under Wanderports banner to the Coop, utility market, as well as apartments and condominiums throughout America.

In addition to water heaters, the US distributor is also the exclusive US Midwest distributor for other products including heating solutions made by Convectair®, surge protectors, patio heaters, as well as, garage and shop heaters.

About Wanderport Corporation: Wanderport Corporation is a holding and business development company making investments, acquiring licenses and deployment of environmentally friendly “Green” technologies such as primary alternative, renewable energy and energy saving products, namely Pulsars microwave energy tank-less water heater, which reduces water and energy consumption as well as global dependence on oil. Pulsar Advanced Technologies Inc. was the proud recipient of the 2005 TIPTA award (TCA; Toronto Construction association, Innovative Product and Technology Award), recognizing excellence in innovation in product or technology development, or its application of its microwave energy tank-less water heater.

THREE people died and more than 50 were injured when a car bomb exploded in one of Iraqs holiest cities yesterday, on the eve of the countrys national elections. A group of pilgrims had just visited a shrine in the Shiite city of Najaf when the blast ripped through two waiting buses. Explosions in other cities have killed dozens of people this week as insurgents fulfil their warning of disrupting the voting process.
A FORMER Army bomb disposal expert was being held by police yesterday after his pregnant wifes car exploded. Nick Fabian, 32, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder hours after his wife Vicky, 32, was left with horrific leg injuries when her car blew up. Vicky, a nurse who had just been accepted into the Armys Royal Medical Corps, was rushed to hospital after the blast, which rocked nearby homes and left the car a mangled wreck. Initial reports had said Mrs Fabians two sons, aged four and 10, were in the back of the car which exploded.

Rwanda, a beautiful country of rolling green hills in the heart of Africa, veers wildly between deepest tragedy and sheer comic opera. Tragedy arrived in 1994 when Hutu tribal extremists began one of the most terrible genocides of the twentieth century. Some 800,000 of their fellow Tutsi countrymen, along with many Hutu moderates, were slaughtered in just 100 days: a killing rate three times that of Nazi German butchery at its height. French police arrested 67-year-old Habyarimana at her home, south of Paris, on a seven-count international arrest warrant issued by the Rwandan government. The charges were genocide, complicity in genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, creation of a criminal gang, murder and conspiracy to commit murder, extermination, and public incitement to commit genocide. For France, this was a diplomatic climb-down of giant proportions. Its President in 1994 – François Mitterrand – had protected Habyarimana after the genocide began and used French paratroopers to whisk her into exile. French courts had also blamed the Tutsis, and most notably current Rwandan President Paul Kagame, for the events that triggered the genocide.
As Tinsel Town gets ready for its biggest night of the year, Academy Award® nominees and presenters joined some of the most well-known film stars in the world for the eighth annual “Night Before” party to benefit the Motion Picture Television Fund (MPTF). Money raised supports the extensive programs and services MPTF provides to more than 60,000 members of the entertainment industry every year.

The event has been held annually the night before the Academy Awards® since 2003 when it instantly became one of the most coveted invitations in town and kicks off what is now a much-anticipated awards season tradition.

This years presenting sponsors were HP, Target and LOreal Paris. The event was once again held at the beautiful and historic Beverly Hills Hotel, where a huge crowd of celebrities and entertainment industry executives came out to support MPTF. Michael Mina, of the restaurant XIV, was the featured chef at this years sold-out event and guests enjoyed being treated to his culinary delights.

“The generosity of the film and television community never ceases to amaze and none more so than Hollywoods great legacy of caring for our own through support of the MPTF,” said Ken Scherer, CEO of the MPTF Foundation. “Through the leadership of Jeffrey Katzenberg, the great success of the Night Before guarantees that MPTF will be able to provide financial assistance and community social services to thousands of industry workers and their families, often at their most critical time of need.”

“Over the last seven years I believe the Night Before, built around the Oscar celebration, reminds us all that ours is a collaborative community, and for more than 60,000 industry members, MPTF is where they turn to for personal support, their health care and other services,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation and Chairman of the MPTF Foundation. “And all this is made possible by the support of our corporate sponsors, the companies and hundreds of individuals who give so generously to make the Night Before one of the most successful fundraisers each year in Hollywood.”

CONCERN that nurses who have had no face-to-face dealings with patients for years are working for the helpline NHS 24 are being raised by Scottish doctors. GPs are expected to condemn the use of nurses with no recent experience of meeting patients to assess people over the telephone, at a major medical conference later this week. HEALTH Secretary Nicola Sturgeon has been criticised by a powerful trade union over her call to scrap lavish bonuses for doctors. The British Medical Association said that ending the distinction awards scheme for consultants would damage the NHS. However, the BMAs comments have been undermined by the Health Minister in the Welsh Assembly backing the Scottish Governments position. EDINBURGH financiers hopes of reinventing Lloyds TSB Scotland as an independent Scottish-headquartered bank look likely to be dashed because parent Lloyds Banking Group is providing billions of pounds to fund loans to customers, the Sunday Herald can reveal. The latest accounts of Lloyds TSB Scotland, run in recent years by Susan Rice, show its loans to customers exceeded deposits by more than pound(s)5 billion at the end of 2008. Loans, at pound(s)11.6bn, were nearly double customer deposits of pound(s)6.5bn. The vast bulk of this gap is plugged by loans from Lloyds Banking Group. Ben Thomson, who headed Edinburgh investment bank Noble, has been fronting the group of financiers looking at Lloyds TSB Scotland. Leith Robertson, former deputy chief executive of RBSs global banking and markets division, is, like Mr Mathewson, believed to have had some involvement, along with other senior figures in the Scottish financial community. Dominance has become a threat to Rangers. The Ibrox sides lead at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League is so sizable that it leaves room for negligence. Only a curmudgeon would bemoan the advantage, but wariness is now an obligation for Walter Smith and his players. Satisfaction ought to be enduring. The season remains poised for Rangers, though, as success is possible in all three domestic competitions, but not guaranteed. “Weve not won anything yet,” says Steven Whittaker, the full-back. “Weve still got to follow it through.” The doubt is novel for Rangers, as all three of the clubs title wins since 2000 have been achieved on the final day of the season. The emphasis now is on avoiding complacency. There is familiarity in encountering Premier League opponents at least three times in each campaign, but other factors are also relevant. Almost every side in the top flight still has something to play for. Fixtures against the Old Firm also tend to raise spirits. No game should be considered elementary.

When they raced through the first set it looked as if they would cruise to victory but in the end, the way they shrugged off the loss of the second set to eventually clinch a convincing triumph gave captain John Lloyd more pleasure than if they had breezed home.
SCOTLANDs favourite book is being given a new lease of life by a group of Edinburgh students. The students, studying publishing at Edinburgh Napier University, are launching a new edition of Lewis Grassic Gibbons classic novel Sunset Song – voted Scotlands favourite book in a 2005 poll by the Scottish Book Trust – both as a traditional paperback and as an e- book. Both editions will be free, the paperback being gifted to the community of The Mearns – another name for the Kincardineshire area in which the book is set – while the e-book will be available online for download. Copyright extends for 70 years after an authors death. As Gibbon died in 1935 publishers are currently able to release his work without permission from his estate.

CARLOS Tevez flew his secret lover halfway round the world for a 2am hotel tryst – on the day his premature baby was allowed home from hospital. Man City star Tevez, 26, sneaked into glamour model Mariana Paesanis hotel room as his on-off partner Vanesa nursed their baby Katie, born six weeks early, 7,000 miles away. The hotel meeting came at the climax of a week of complicated planning by pounds 30million striker Tevez, whose childhood sweetheart Vanesa is recuperating from Katies traumatic birth. Tevez spent 12 days with Katie in intensive care as she fought for life.

It was really difficult to tell where Paul Robeson ended and Lenny Henry began. The one-time stand-up comic was playing the black singer with the uniquely deep and passionate voice in Sunday nights Drama on 3. Annie Caulfields intense, intimate play, Im Still the Same Paul, looked at what happened to Robeson (1898-1976) after he came under surveillance because of his outspoken speeches demanding civil rights in America and his dubious enthusiasm for Stalin. Whatever he thought was private in his life, we heard it. We knew it, says one of the spies who tailed him. Henry was just brilliant as Robeson; one of the best performances in a radio play Ive heard in a long while. He just drew me in, his voice close to the microphone, talking not to every listener but just to me. Its as if Henry has been a radio actor all his working life. He made me really believe it was Robeson talking and that what I was listening to were the illicit tapes recorded by Hoovers team of FBI agents, not a group of actors reading from a script in a soundproof studio. The drama seamlessly wove together documentary recordings of Robeson singing and speaking at meetings in America with a qfictional retelling of his story, as seen through the eyes of a former agent who spent decades tailing Robeson. Michael Vincent is now looking back through the old tapes to find out whether there is anything in them that could justify why Robeson is brought back from Moscow, a broken man. What really happened in the dripping bathroom of a Moscow hotel? Was Robeson drugged to break his spirit? A much safer way to get rid of him than simply hiring someone to shoot him?

BENEFITS cheat Peter Ollerton-Wright claimed thousands of pounds in England – while relaxing in Thailand.

“It is with sadness that I announce the departure of a long-time
business colleague. Kelly has been a terrific addition to the Company
over the past year and has made great strides advancing quality care and

continued coordination of therapy programs within our skilled nursing
facility companies and strengthen Hallmark’s competitive appeal to
third-party providers. I am also extremely proud of the strong

Browning previously was commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), where he served in Governor Mitch Daniels cabinet. Prior to being named commissioner of INDOT, Browning was Chief Information Officer of Indianas Office of Technology (IOT).

Browning left public service in 2009 to return to the private sector. At that time, Governor Daniels said, “Karl Browning has been spectacular in this job. I did everything I could to keep him as long as I could. His legacy will live for generations through record-breaking road building that he has put in motion for Indiana.”

Browning has spent nearly two-thirds of his career managing service delivery organizations with two Ross Perot service companies, EDS and Perot Systems, helping customers improve their operations and profitability. Immediately prior to joining the Daniels administration, Browning served on the executive team of Golden Rule Insurance as senior vice president and Chief Information Officer.

“We are delighted to welcome Karl to The Schneider Corporation,” said Victoria Schneider Temple, CEO and chairman of The Schneider Corporation. “Karls background in customer-focused service delivery will enhance Schneiders momentum of increasing value to our customers, improving our efficiency and finding creative solutions to our clients problems.”

Canfor Pulp Income Fund (the “Fund”) (TSX: CFX.UN) announced today that Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership (the “Partnership”) in which the Fund has a 49.8% ownership, has moved its 2010 maintenance outage at the Prince George Pulp Paper mill, previously planned for April, into the first quarter. This is being done to coincide with unplanned maintenance requiring the shutdown of the mills recovery boiler. The total duration of the shutdown of the boiler is expected to be approximately 20 days and the total reduced pulp production in the first quarter is expected to be approximately 15,000 tonnes, including the 4 days and 3,600 tonnes previously scheduled for the April outage. Operation of the paper machine during part of the shut down period is expected to mitigate the financial impact of these outages to a reduction of EBITDA of approximately $6 million in the first quarter, including an estimated $2.5 million impact of the 2010 planned maintenance outage.

This additional maintenance outage is not expected to have any impact on the level of distributions declared by the Partnership or the Fund.

NEW YORK — Phoenix House, the nation’s leading non-profit provider of
substance abuse and prevention services, today announces the opening of
the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center at the Phoenix House Career Academy. A
residential treatment program with a fully equipped vocational training
center on site, the Career Academy, located in Brooklyn, NY, guides
students as they work toward their professional and personal goals.
Adding a new track to the Career Academy’s vocational programs, the
Beyoncé Cosmetology Center will offer a seven-month cosmetology training
course for adult men and women. As Beyoncé is a spokesperson for L’Oréal
Paris, the company is generously providing all makeup, skin care,
and hair care products.

The pop superstar’s relationship with Phoenix House began when she was
preparing for the role of Etta James in the 2008 film Cadillac
Records. To play the part of the former heroin addict, Beyoncé met
with women in treatment at the Career Academy. Moved by their powerful
stories of addiction and recovery, she later donated her salary from the
film. A year later, she and her mother and business partner, fashion
designer Tina Knowles, who owned a popular hair salon in Houston when
Beyoncé was growing up, conceived of the idea of Phoenix House’s new
cosmetology program.

“We were thrilled when Beyoncé and her mother Tina approached us about
creating a cosmetology center for our clients,” said Phoenix House
President and CEO Howard Meitiner. “Their generosity and compassion
toward the men and women we serve is extraordinary. With this tremendous
gift, they have given our clients a route to achieve successful,
rewarding lives in recovery.”

Opening today, the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center will teach students the
theory and practical skills they need to pass the NYS Cosmetology
Licensure Exam. The Center will also offer complimentary services, using
L’Oréal Paris products, to a wide range of community partners, enabling
its more advanced students to refine and practice their skills. Phoenix
House’s partners in this endeavor are two divisions of the NYS
Department of Education, the Vocational and Educational Services for
Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) and the Bureau of Propriety
Schools (BPSS).

Munters Corporation has been recognized as
one of 10 suppliers to receive Intel
Corporations prestigious Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI)
award.

The award recognizes extraordinary commitment to quality and exceptional
performance to Intels goals and is the companys highest honor for its
suppliers. In 2009 Munters provided VOC abatement equipment deemed vital to
Intels success.

“We at Munters are proud to again receive this most prestigious SCQI award
from
Intel. As a leading provider of energy-efficient air treatment solutions
for
demanding applications, our continuous improvement proceeds within the long
term
customer partnerships with Intel and other customers,” said Lars Engström,
CEO
of Munters Group.

“We are pleased to announce that Munters Corporation has received Intels
SCQI
award for the second year in a row. Munters has been a valuable partner to
Intel
for over a decade. We congratulate them for their achievement and look
forward
to their continued support,” said Tom Brady, Corporate Environmental
manager,
Intel.

LOS ANGELES — Thomas Properties Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: TPGI) reported today the results
of operations for the quarter and year ended December 31, 2009.

“Last year was one of the most difficult ever for the real estate
industry and the impacts were felt across the board in all sectors,”
said James A. Thomas, Chairman and CEO. “Even in this environment, we
were able to increase cash flow as evidenced by improvements in the
fourth quarter, and we favorably restructured some of our debt and loan
terms to better position our properties for the future.”

The results of operations presented in this release include a
consolidated net loss for the three months ended December 31, 2009 of
$(7.7) million or $(0.30) per share compared to a consolidated net loss
of $(7.7) million or $(0.33) per share for the three months ended
December 31, 2008. The consolidated net loss for the year ended December
31, 2009 was $(21.6) million or $(0.86) per share compared to $(5.5)
million or $(0.24) per share for the year ended December 31, 2008.
Included in the consolidated net loss for the three and twelve months
ended December 31, 2009 are pre-tax, non-cash impairment charges of $4.4
million and $13.0 million, respectively, related to the Murano
condominium project, and $14.0 million and $16.0 million, respectively,
related to joint venture investments.

After tax cash flow (ATCF) for the three months ended December 31, 2009
was $2.5 million or $0.10 per share compared to after tax cash flow of
$0.5 million or $0.02 per share for the three months ended December 31,
2008. The increase in ATCF for the quarter ended December 31, 2009 over
the prior year period resulted from an increase in gains from sales of
condominium units at the Murano property and a reduction in interest
expense, partially offset by reductions in property net operating income
and net revenues from the investment advisory management, leasing and
development services business. ATCF for the twelve months ended December
31, 2009 was $8.2 million or $0.33 per share compared to ATCF of $22.5
million or $0.95 per share for the twelve months ended December 31,
2008. The reduction in ATCF for the year ended December 31, 2009
compared to the prior year primarily resulted from a decline in gains
from sales of condominium units at Murano and a reduction in property
net operating income. The Company defines ATCF (a non-GAAP financial
measure) as net income (loss) excluding the following items:
non-controlling interests, deferred income taxes, non-cash charges for
depreciation and amortization and asset impairment, amortization of loan
costs, non-cash compensation expense, straight-line rent adjustments,
adjustments to reflect the fair market value of rent, and gain from
extinguishment of debt. ATCF is further described in note (c) to the
financial statements below.

Thomas further stated, “We have accomplished a number of financing and
capital transactions, reducing our consolidated debt balances by $69.7
million at December 31, 2009 compared to December 31, 2008. Also,
subsequent to year end, we negotiated on behalf of the California State
Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS), our partner in City National Plaza
in downtown Los Angeles, for CalSTRS to acquire all $219.1 million of
mezzanine debt on that property. CalSTRS will contribute this debt to
the partnership’s equity, reducing the leverage on the property from
$568.0 million to $348.9 million, all of which is first mortgage debt.
We are in discussions with CalSTRS to obtain an option to participate in
the loan purchase, on or after the maturity of the mezzanine debt, based
on our current pro rata share of 25% of the existing City National Plaza
equity. We are confident that the increased equity, together with the
property’s substantial cash reserves, will facilitate the refinancing of
the mortgage later in 2010.”

Chartwell Seniors Housing Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX: CSH.UN) announced today results for the three months and year ended December 31, 2009.

2009 HIGHLIGHTS:

Same property net operating income (”NOI”) decreased $0.3 million or 0.7% for the quarter ended December 31, 2009 compared to the same period last year. For the year ended December 31, 2009 same property NOI decreased $0.9 million or 0.5% compared to last year. The implementation of rent increases on renewal and turnover, increased ancillary revenues, and targeted cost reductions partially offset the negative impact of reduced occupancies, property and commodity tax increases, and a one-time increase in vacation and benefit cost estimates compared to the prior year. Same property occupancy was 91.8% in the fourth quarter of 2009, up 0.5 percentage points from the previous quarter of 2009 but down from 93.1% in last years fourth quarter. For the year ended December 31, 2009 same property occupancy was 91.6% compared to 93.3% in the prior year.

In the Canadian Retirement portfolio same property NOI decreased $1.0 million or 4.3% for the quarter ended December 31, 2009 compared to the same period last year. For the year ended December 31, 2009 same property NOI decreased $1.8 million or 1.8% compared to last year. The NOI declines are primarily attributable to lower occupancies, particularly in the British Columbia portfolio, as well as one-time increases in estimated liabilities for employee vacation and benefits recorded in the fourth quarter of 2009. Same property occupancies in Ontario were healthy at 93.1% in the fourth quarter of 2009, up from 92.1% in the third quarter of the year and lower than 94.1% in the fourth quarter of last year. Customer traffic and expected future arrivals maintained positive trends and management is optimistic that this improvement will translate into continued increases in occupancies in 2010. In addition, the spillover effect from significant waiting lists for long-term care beds in the province should continue supporting the increased demand for retirement suites. Performance in the Quebec portfolio continues to show steady growth with same property average occupancy improving to 88.6% in the fourth quarter of 2009, up from 87.8% in the third quarter of 2009 and from 85.5% in the fourth quarter of last year. In Western Canada, while Alberta occupancies remained strong, continued oversupply conditions in two British Columbia markets, combined with reduced occupancies at one long-term care community, resulted in same property occupancies declining to 90.3% in the fourth quarter of 2009 from 91.0% in the third quarter of 2009 and 95.0% in the fourth quarter of the prior year.

Corporations prestigious Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI)

In reaction to the 2010 Canadian federal budget announcement, Deloittes senior tax leaders today commented on a number of measures as they relate to Canadas revenue generation and international competitiveness, and offered considerations for strategic tax measures to improve Canadas business climate. Though it was largely predicted to be a “stay-the-course budget”, a number of key items tabled today will impact many Canadian businesses in the year ahead.

“The minister announced a lower-than-forecast, but still recession-fuelled, $53.8 billion deficit, which pales in contrast to the deficits in the United States. and the United Kingdom,” explains Andrew Dunn, national Tax leader, Deloitte. “This brings the federal debt-to-GDP ratio to just under 34% – a multi-year high and well-above the governments own 25% target. The budget outlines continued, but declining, deficits over the next five years, starting with a still very high 2011 deficit of $49.2 billion.”

“Although short on details, the minister resisted the temptation to defer scheduled corporate tax reductions over the next two years and laid out a credible multi-year roadmap to deficit reductions over the next few years,” explains Dunn.

While there is no denying that the global economic outlook has improved since January 2009, when the last budget was introduced, there still appears to be a bumpy road ahead. The minister predicts real growth in the economy of 2.6% in the 2010 calendar year and 3.2% in 2011.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources
(Sugar Land, Texas) — For decades, Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) (Toyota City, Japan) has been
the name in quality, reliable automobiles. Toyota used this reputation to
reach first place in worldwide sales, finally taking firm control of the
top position in 2009, despite claims from the American automakers that their quality had become just as good as that of
Toyota. However, Toyotas vaunted reputation has been shattered in recent
weeks. The company has taken major damage from its massive recalls and the
resulting congressional hearings caused by faulty braking systems that have
sidelined almost every model that Toyota produces, bringing the
manufacturing giants operations to a screeching halt.

Consumer confidence in Toyota as a whole is now shot, and the companys
sales have suffered dramatically. In an unprecedented move, Toyotas
executive leadership testified before Congress, apologizing not only to
lawmakers and the public, but also to Toyota employees for the embarrassing
and deadly series of events that have led to the recalls.

Toyota was forced to shutter almost all of the companys production
operations as it worked to come up with a solution to the faulty braking
systems that have claimed at least 39 lives in recent years. While Toyota
dealerships are struggling to fix the millions of vehicles affected by the
problem, Toyota has determined that every new model that the company
produces will include a new brake-override system by the end of the year.

What does this mean for the future of Toyota? The automaker has set itself
back at least a decade in terms of customer confidence and sales. Toyota
wanted 2010 to be the year that it solidified its first-place position in
the automotive world and distanced itself from other automakers in regard
to sales. But now sales are suffering greatly, opening the door for
General Motors Corporation (GM) (Detroit, Michigan) to grab the No. 1 slot
again.

It is going to take at least a year for Toyota to begin recovering from
this series of mistakes. The company has already begun a massive ad
campaign aimed at reassuring consumers that Toyota does indeed put quality
above sales, although the facts do not support these claims. The company
will have to continue this campaign for years to come as it struggles to
recover the sales that have been lost.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources
(Sugar Land, Texas) — Given Toyota Motor Corporations (NYSE:TM) (Toyota City,
Japan) recent woes, a shift in overall automobile sales was expected. Amid weeks of Toyota-bashing,
not only in the U.S. but worldwide, competitors have pulled out all the
stops, attempting to wrestle market share away from the worlds No. 1
automaker. The fruits of that labor were made clear when February sales
numbers were released recently. Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) (Dearborn, Michigan), as expected,
and more surprisingly Nissan North America Incorporated (Smyrna, Tennessee)
made significant sales gains, while Toyota was the only major automaker to
show a loss for the month.

First came Hurricane Katrina and many more followed, then L.A.s massive Station Fire, followed by the Haitian and Chilean earthquakes . In between, tornados , floods and massive snowstorms have caused the loss of lives and massive property damage . According to scientists who study global warming, these are just a few of the natural disasters predicted in the years ahead. While we may not be able to stop disasters from occurring, disaster recovery expert Steve Slepcevic says better preparation will help us survive and recover.

Slepcevic is president and founder of Paramount Disaster Recovery , Inc., a leading nationwide disaster response and recovery contracting company. Since 1989, Paramount has completed over 2,000 disaster restoration projects nationally. The companys team includes licensed contractors, certified industrial hygienists, structural engineers, and architects who are able to identify structural and hazardous material problems that insurance claim adjusters may overlook due to lack of training, experience or licensing.

Since the best approach is in offsetting damage, Slepcevic recommends a few simple steps to help properties withstand the onslaught of extreme weather. This includes a periodic roof inspection and the clearing of scuppers and gutters to avoid roof collapse before winter approaches. He notes, “There are over 3,000 roof collapses each year in the U.S., resulting in over 20 deaths and a widespread disruption of business operations.”

Preparation of a Family Communication Plan is key to surviving any disaster. Says Slepcevic, “In the plan, list who to contact in the event of an emergency and ways to do so should normal communications be disrupted or family members get separated. In addition, each family member should have a 5-day Disaster Kit for their vehicle with food, water, clothing and additional emergency supplies.”

Additionally, he recommends that every family draw up an Emergency Evacuation Plan with a location to meet outside the city limits, should roads become inaccessible or their home become uninhabitable. They should also designate an emergency phone number for messages to be left every 4 to 8 hours, as needed.
ATLANTA — The U.S. Small Business Administration announces today that federal
economic injury disaster loans are available to small businesses, small
agricultural cooperatives and most private non-profit organizations of
all sizes located in Michigan as a result of excessive rain,
flooding, flash flooding, hail, lightning, tornadoes and high winds that
occurred from April 1, 2009 through September 1, 2009.

The SBA’s disaster declaration includes the following counties: Alcona,
Alger, Allegan, Antrim, Arenac, Barry, Bay, Benzie, Berrien, Branch,
Calhoun, Cass, Chippewa, Clare, Crawford, Eaton, Genesee, Gladwin, Grand
Traverse, Gratiot, Hillsdale, Huron, Ingham, Ionia, Iosco, Isabella,
Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kalkaska, Kent, Lake, Lapeer, Leelanau, Lenawee,
Livingston, Luce, Mackinac, Macomb, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Midland,
Missaukee, Monroe, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oakland, Oceana, Ogemaw,
Osceola, Oscoda, Otsego, Ottawa, Roscommon, Saginaw, Saint Clair, Saint
Joseph, Sanilac, Schoolcraft, Shiawassee, Tuscola, Van Buren, Washtenaw,
Wayne and Wexford.

“When the Secretary of Agriculture issues a disaster declaration to help
farmers recover from damages and losses to crops, the Small Business
Administration issues a declaration to assist eligible entities affected
by the same disaster,” said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA’s Field
Operations Center East.

Under this declaration, the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan program
is available to eligible farm-related and nonfarm-related entities that
suffered financial losses as a direct result of this disaster. Agricultural
producers, farmers and ranchers are not eligible to apply to SBA.

The loan amount can be up to $2 million with a 4 percent interest rate
and terms up to 30 years. The SBA determines eligibility based on the
size of the applicant, type of activity and its financial resources.
Loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each
applicant’s financial condition. These working capital loans may be used
to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills that
could have been paid had the disaster not occurred. The loans are not
intended to replace lost sales or profits.

“In my meeting with JETRO on Feb. 23, I essentially explained GeckoSystems business model, their many proprietary, beneficial and cost effective mobile robot solutions, and their criteria for selecting a Japanese business partner. While I was pleased with their time and attention, I am now waiting for some sort of feedback from JETRO Japan through their San Francisco office. I believe it may take at least a few weeks for us to get some sort of response back from Japan. Since I am planning to be in Tokyo from Mar. 29-31, I wish to visit JETROs world headquarters at that time.

“Besides our ongoing discussions with JETRO, I am visiting tmsuk Company, Ltd. in Fukuoka, Japan on Mar. 26, and I will ask them how receptive they are to some sort of business cooperation with GeckoSystems in the future. They are very focused on cost effective health care delivery using mobile robots,” commented Hajime Yasumatsu, Chairman, Yasu, Inc., a Missouri Corporation.

Martin Spencer, President/CEO of GeckoSystems stated: “As all of us here at GeckoSystems are excited about this development, due to the growing substance of these past and future discussions, I feel it is in the best interest of all parties to reveal the present status of this continuing, if not heightened, interest in GeckoSystems by not only the Japanese government, JETRO, but also one of their most advanced mobile robot companies, tmsuk Co., Ltd. The upcoming meetings and the potential outcome(s) of them have been in the works for several years and is now coming to what looks to be an extraordinarily profitable culmination. I believe their interest in us is due to not only our flagship product, the automatic self navigation software, GeckoNav™, but also the reality that we have a complete multitasking personal robot, the CareBot™, with verbal interaction capabilities, GeckoChat™, and the ability to routinely follow a designated family member with GeckoTrak™.”

The Japanese have their own eldercare crisis because of the size of their WWII widow population. Due to their understanding of the high costs of sufficient and appropriate eldercare, the Japanese government has spent one hundred million dollars ($100,000,000) in grants (to Sanyo, Toshiba, Hitachi, Fujitsu, NEC, etc.) over the last eight to ten years to develop personal robots for their own eldercare crisis, yet no viable solutions have been developed by them to date.

As of March 3, 2010 the USD/GBP exchange was 1.50613 to 1, with the pound sliding nearly 8% against the U.S. dollar since January 1st, 2010. The pounds downward momentum makes around the world fares originated in the U.K. up to 23% less expensive for Australian, Canadian, or U.S. originated travelers.

The One World Alliance sells its 3 Continent business class around the world fare for US$8,600 plus taxes for departures from the U.S. The same itinerary originating in the U.K. sells for GBP4,799. Based on current exchange rates, this equates to US$7,223. U.S. travelers considering around the world travel will receive greater value by purchasing a one way ticket to the United Kingdom and then starting their around the world itinerary from London using the lower U.K. fare level.

In addition to lower costs, U.S. based travelers purchasing a U.K. originated around the world ticket benefit from more lenient fare rules. The One World Alliance maintains a 7 day advance purchase requirement for North American departures, but has no specific advance purchase requirement for European originations. U.S. based travelers can also benefit from up to six bonus flight segments within North America between international trips and a bonus ticket back to the U.K. for future use.

The Star Alliance 29,000 mile business class fare (known as STAR1) originated in the U.K. sells for GBP 4,964 or US$7,440. The same around the world ticket originated in the U.S. starts at $9,564, making the U.K. 23% less expensive compared to the U.S. fare level. Australian, Canadian, and U.S. based travelers will also find savings by originating their around the world tickets in the Euro zone, where the STAR1 fare starts at EUR 5,675/USD 7,695, a 19% savings compared to the U.S. fare level.

A Jackson County jury determined that a neighborhood association was 30 percent liable for a residents fall on an icy road. On Nov. 30, 2006, at about 1:30 p.m., Ed Mason was trying to walk across his cul-de-sac in the Woodbridge Homes neighborhood to deliver a newspaper to his neighbor. There had been an ice storm in the area early that morning and the forecast called for heavy snowfall that afternoon. The road in the cul-de-sac was icy, and Mason fell. He was admitted to St. Josephs Hospital, where two CT scans of his head were taken. The first indicated intracranial bleeding and a subdural hematoma. The report from the on-site radiologist said the hematoma appeared to be five to seven days old. Masons wife, Sarah Mason, said he had fallen a week earlier and struck his head on a piece of furniture while visiting their son in Denver. She said he did not show any symptoms at the time of the fall. A follow-up CT scan taken four hours later showed that the subdural hematoma had begun to bleed. Mason then underwent a craniotomy to relieve pressure on his brain. The treating surgeon said he believed that the hematoma was caused by the accident earlier that day. At trial, the plaintiffs alleged that Woodbridge was responsible for maintaining the common areas of the subdivision. They claimed Woodbridge should have treated the ice on the streets with sand or salt in between the ice storm and the snowstorm. They also claimed that Ed Mason continues to have some cognitive difficulties as a result of the fall. Additionally, Sarah Mason filed a loss-of- services claim.
The C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. (TSX VENTURE: CMI) iNetVu® antenna has been deployed the first time for mobile breast cancer screening in rural New Zealand.

The Breast Screen Waitemata Northland unit, which began operating this month, sets the standard for mobile breast cancer screening using digital and satellite technology.

The units new digital technology processes the picture within seconds, and beams it, via the iNetVu® mobile satellite antenna located on top of the vehicle, to radiologists in Auckland.

The BreastScreen unit was integrated with the iNetVu® mobile antenna system by C-COMs reseller Farmside, who is also the satellite service provider for this application. “To deliver the best in health and education services across New Zealand we need to be able to utilise technologies that are equivalent to those available in the cities,” he said. “In this case satellite has met an immediate need and is literally helping to save lives.”

Giusto is Co-Managing Shareholder of the firms Miami office and Co-Chair of the Miami Real Estate Department.

I Care I Cure increases public awareness about the painful side-effects of current cancer treatments for children and raises money to fund targeted therapeutic research, so that medical treatment will be gentler and more tolerable for children and their families.

“This organization is special in that it is one of the few grassroots organizations committed solely to funding research for gentler, more effective childhood cancer treatments,” Giusto said. “I am honored to be able to play an active role in helping to find more humane treatment for childhood cancer and eradicating the psychological and health problems, such as hair loss, weakened immune systems, and isolation, that accompany current treatments.”

Giusto is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® (2007-2010 editions), the oldest legal industry peer-review publication, and the 2008 and 2009 editions of the Legal 500 US, an internationally recognized client referral guide based on interviews with thousands of lawyers and with clients around the world.

AmStem Corporation (OTCBB: AMST) announced that Histostem Ltd. of South Korea (”Histostem”), has signed a partnership with the Songpa-Gu Office, an office of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, to offer a program that will enable multicultural families to store umbilical cord blood, at no expense to them, for up to fifteen years. Umbilical cord blood contains an abundant supply of stem cells, which when properly stored, may be used as part of developing treatment therapies for many life-threatening diseases. By the terms of the agreement, Histostem will provide families access to advanced cord blood storage services as well as proprietary stem cell treatments derived from the stored blood. Songpa County will support Histostem with appropriate administrative and other necessary services for the successful launching of this program.

AmStems Chairman, Dr. Hoon Han, commented, “With more than 1.1 million foreigners now living in Korea, the number of multicultural marriages and families is on the rise. By providing these families the opportunity to store the donated umbilical cord blood, we give them access to autologous stem cells that may be used in the future treatment of certain cancers, such as leukemia, as well as immune and genetic disorders. In addition, by addressing the multicultural population in Korea, this collaborative opportunity also increases the genetic diversity of the available supply of umbilical cord blood derived stem cells — which may benefit Korean and foreign patients alike.”

This is the first cooperative cord blood storage program of its type in Korea and is expected to serve as a model for other local communities. David Stark, President of AmStem International, Inc., commented, “This provides AmStem and Histostem with another badge of validity with government health agencies around the world. A diverse genetic catalogue of autologous, HLA-typed stem cell resources such as cord blood is in extremely high demand right now — not only by individual families, but by government-sponsored scientists and other researchers worldwide. This is exactly the kind of collaborative, networking opportunity that AmStem hopes to expand in North America and Europe.”

With Histostems already-established repository of over 80,000 umbilical cord blood units and growing, AmStem controls one of the worlds largest single Cord Blood Banks. “This is just the beginning of AmStems planned commercial expansion into autologous, prospective, long-term cord blood storage; as well as the ability to link up with other major sources of cord blood to form an important resource for the worlds scientists,” concluded Mr. Stark.

About AmStem Corporation
AmStem Corporation (OTCBB: AMST) is in the field of regenerative medicine and is a leading provider of biotherapeutic and cosmetic stem cell products, stem cell collection and storage expertise and access to nanotechnology vital to stem cell research. company’s senior executives will present a roundtable discussion at the
prestigious CFO Rising Conference, Navigating The New Normal on
Tuesday, March 9th in Orlando FL. The discussion, entitled,
Rx for Health Care: Why an Integrated Approach to Health Care Spend Can
Lower Costs will be presented by Andy Dengos, SVP
of Sales Business Development and Rick Farris, VP of Sales.

As health care costs continue to rise—a predicted 7 percent this year
alone-–companies are looking for effective ways to manage their
exposure. Part of the problem is that many organizations do not know
what they are paying for: they are rich in claims data, but information
poor. MDI’s Andy Dengos and Rick Farris have been scheduled by the
conference organizers to present an introduction to the multiple uses of
analytics and predictive modeling in health care cost containment. The
presentation will show corporate CFOs a multitude of tools to ensure
cost savings as well as outline the benefits of unit cost management and
an integrated approach to managing health care spending.

“In this age of ever evolving applications of data, an understanding of
the role analytics and enhanced predictability can play in containing
costs is really critical to corporations,” said Andy Dengos, MDI’s Sr.
Vice President of Sales and Business Development.

CFO Rising is the signature conference hosted by CFO magazine, an award
winning business of the Economist Group, reaching over 600,000 corporate
executives around America. The CFO Rising Conference attracts between
300-400 senior financial executives. It examines issues that are
pertinent to finance executives with clear corporate agendas.

The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Labour, will deliver opening remarks at the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Forum III: Leading Workplace Change.

Minister Raitt will be available to answer questions from the media following the address.
