Dutch authorities arrested a 41-year-old Swedish man about to pilot a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 from Amsterdams Schiphol Airport to Ankara. The suspect used to have a valid commercial pilots license, but had been flying for 13 years with the forged document for companies in the UK, Belgium and Italy, compiling 10,000 unlicensed hours at the controls. Authorities charged him with forgery and flying without a valid license. The pilot, whose name was not disclosed, was said to have expressed relief when confronted and taken off the jetliner. Turkeys Corendon Airlines reportedly said he had been flying for the airline for two years and had “expertly misled the company with his false papers”. The airline said it had been alerted by police and had a pilot standing by to fly the Boeing 737. CNN says “its apparently not the first time the man, whose identity was not divulged, has tried to fly without a license. Investigators in Sweden charged the man several years ago with flying with a fake license, but they did not pursue the case because they couldnt find him, said Anders Lundblad, a spokesman for the Swedish Transport Agency.”
FUNDRAISERS are looking to make a splash for charity. At Tynemouth Pool, in Beach Road, North Shields, around 100 people are set to jump or dive off the five-metre high board as many times as possible in one hour. The event, to be held on March 19 in aid of Sport Relief, aims to reach 1,000 jumps, equalling a threemile free fall and raising over pounds 1,500 for the charity. To mark the occasion, the water in the pool will be coloured red. SAN DIEGO — Escondido based General Contractor, Echo Pacific Construction, Inc., is

ATTEMPTS are underway to send military veterans to special “care” units instead of prison if they commit a criminal offence. The key figure behind the controversial move is the SNPs Angela Constance, who represents Livingston at Holyrood. On Friday, she held a high-profile summit at the Scottish Parliament with criminal justice agencies and veterans charities to test support for her proposal, which would see a secure care unit established for traumatised war veterans as an alternative to custody. The MSP believes there is a “moral responsibility” to support veterans both during military operations and when they return home, even if they find themselves on the wrong side of the criminal justice system. Tom Fox, Scottish Prison Service (SPS) spokesman, confirmed that prisoners were not routinely asked if they were in the armed forces. The SPS has estimated that it has 121 veterans in Scottish prisons. Critics, including Mrs Constance, say the SPS figures are an “under- representation”.

While the sky may be the limit on creativity, there are still a few flight regulations. ALEX Salmond yesterday urged voters to “rage” against the Westminster machine at the coming General Election by looking beyond Labour and the Conservatives and backing SNP “national and local champions” to fight for jobs instead. Launching his partys election campaign in Edinburgh, the First Minister said picking between Gordon Brown or David Cameron was like choosing between “tweedledumb or tweedledee”. Both planned savage cuts based on a “metropolitan political consensus” which largely ignored Scotland and left families suffering. “I say this to the London parties – there is not going to be business as usual. At this election the people of Scotland will make their voice heard. And they wont be voting just for politicians. They will be electing local champions.” The SNP leader said it would be “good” to have a hung parliament after the election, giving the SNP and other smaller parties greater influence over policy and spending. “The London parties talk about cuts as though it was all about numbers on a balance sheet. But we know different. Behind those cuts will be real people, real services, real jobs. At this election, the choice is clear. (PDUFA), the FDA aims to complete its review 10 months after submission and
has set an action date of July 24, 2010.

Court Approves “Pre-Packaged” Plan of Reorganization Allowing Company
to Emerge from Chapter 11 with Restructured Balance Sheet
NEW YORK — Penton Media (“Penton” or the “Company”), a leading business-to-business
media company, announced today that it has received confirmation of its
“pre-packaged” plan of reorganization (the “Plan”) from the United
States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The
Court’s ruling allows Penton to implement the capital restructuring the
Company announced on February 9. Penton expects to emerge from Chapter
11 within the next few days with a healthier balance sheet.
The capital restructuring will result in the elimination of more than
$270 million of long-term debt and an extension of the maturity on the
Company’s senior secured credit facility through 2014. In addition,

investment in the Company, which will provide additional working capital
to fund operations and improve Penton’s overall liquidity.

NEW ORLEANS — Global Hunter Securities, a full service investment bank, today
announced it has successfully arranged an auction and sale of the assets
of Bender Shipbuilding Repair Co, Inc., which filed for protection
under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code in July of 2009. The winning bid
from Signal International of Mobile, Alabama, amounted to approximately
$31.3 million. Signal provides marine fabrication services in the Gulf
Coast region.
The assets principally consisted of approximately 40 acres of industrial
land, including 4,500 feet of waterfront on the Mobile River, and
shipyard equipment, including two floating dry docks, and other
associated real property. The sale was administered by the US Bankruptcy
Court for the Southern District of Alabama.
“We are pleased to have facilitated this complex transaction, which
brought outstanding value to the Bender Estate,” said Daniel O. Conwill
IV, chairman and chief executive officer of Global Hunter. “Unique to
this bankruptcy situation, multiple parties had to be satisfied,
including numerous secured lenders with various collateral, as well as
the committee for unsecured creditors.”
The New Orleans based law firm of Lugenbuhl, Wheaton, Peck, Rankin
Hubbard was debtor’s counsel for Bender Shipbuilding.
The PA recommends open pit mining, milling at a rate of 87,000 tonnes per day, conventional flotation, and Outotecs chloride leach process followed by on-site nickel solvent extraction – electrowinning (SX-EW) metal refining. With a base case long term price of $8.50 per lb nickel and $17.50 per lb cobalt (all financial data are U.S. $), the study shows the project has a pre-tax Net Present Value of $819 million using an 8% discount rate. The mine would recover 1.88 billion pounds of payable nickel at an average “life of mine” strip ratio of 0.74 to 1 with an overall refined nickel recovery of 52.8% over 24.4 years.
On average, the project will produce 35,000 tonnes (77 million pounds) of payable nickel metal per year with a C1 cost of $3.34 per pound. The C1 operating cost is defined as the cash cost incurred at each processing stage, from mining through to recoverable nickel metal delivered to market, net of by-product credits (cobalt).
Capital costs for the mine, process plant, refinery and infrastructure development are estimated to be $2.92 billion.

ATTEMPTS are underway to send military veterans to special “care” units instead of prison if they commit a criminal offence. The key figure behind the controversial move is the SNPs Angela Constance, who represents Livingston at Holyrood. On Friday, she held a high-profile summit at the Scottish Parliament with criminal justice agencies and veterans charities to test support for her proposal, which would see a secure care unit established for traumatised war veterans as an alternative to custody. The MSP believes there is a “moral responsibility” to support veterans both during military operations and when they return home, even if they find themselves on the wrong side of the criminal justice system. Tom Fox, Scottish Prison Service (SPS) spokesman, confirmed that prisoners were not routinely asked if they were in the armed forces. A FORMER Army bomb disposal expert was being held by police yesterday after his pregnant wifes car exploded. Nick Fabian, 32, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder hours after his wife Vicky, 32, was left with horrific leg injuries when her car blew up. Vicky, a nurse who had just been accepted into the Armys Royal Medical Corps, was rushed to hospital after the blast, which rocked nearby homes and left the car a mangled wreck. Rwanda, a beautiful country of rolling green hills in the heart of Africa, veers wildly between deepest tragedy and sheer comic opera. Tragedy arrived in 1994 when Hutu tribal extremists began one of the most terrible genocides of the twentieth century. Some 800,000 of their fellow Tutsi countrymen, along with many Hutu moderates, were slaughtered in just 100 days: a killing rate three times that of Nazi German butchery at its height. French police arrested 67-year-old Habyarimana at her home, south of Paris, on a seven-count international arrest warrant issued by the Rwandan government. The charges were genocide, complicity in genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, creation of a criminal gang, murder and conspiracy to commit murder, extermination, and public incitement to commit genocide. For France, this was a diplomatic climb-down of giant proportions. Its President in 1994 – François Mitterrand – had protected Habyarimana after the genocide began and used French paratroopers to whisk her into exile. French courts had also blamed the Tutsis, and most notably current Rwandan President Paul Kagame, for the events that triggered the genocide.

CONCERN that nurses who have had no face-to-face dealings with patients for years are working for the helpline NHS 24 are being raised by Scottish doctors. GPs are expected to condemn the use of nurses with no recent experience of meeting patients to assess people over the telephone, at a major medical conference later this week. She said nurses would send people to hospitals or out-of-hours centres when they did not need medical treatment. Dr Brown, a GP from Springburn in Glasgow, said: “They are an extremely committed group of nursing staff but a lot of them had not seen a patient in years and I felt it was inappropriate.

SCOTLANDs favourite book is being given a new lease of life by a group of Edinburgh students. The students, studying publishing at Edinburgh Napier University, are launching a new edition of Lewis Grassic Gibbons classic novel Sunset Song – voted Scotlands favourite book in a 2005 poll by the Scottish Book Trust – both as a traditional paperback and as an e- book. Both editions will be free, the paperback being gifted to the community of The Mearns – another name for the Kincardineshire area in which the book is set – while the e-book will be available online for download. Copyright extends for 70 years after an authors death. As Gibbon died in 1935 publishers are currently able to release his work without permission from his estate.

ATTEMPTS are underway to send military veterans to special “care” units instead of prison if they commit a criminal offence. The key figure behind the controversial move is the SNPs Angela Constance, who represents Livingston at Holyrood. On Friday, she held a high-profile summit at the Scottish Parliament with criminal justice agencies and veterans charities to test support for her proposal, which would see a secure care unit established for traumatised war veterans as an alternative to custody. The MSP believes there is a “moral responsibility” to support veterans both during military operations and when they return home, even if they find themselves on the wrong side of the criminal justice system. Tom Fox, Scottish Prison Service (SPS) spokesman, confirmed that prisoners were not routinely asked if they were in the armed forces. The SPS has estimated that it has 121 veterans in Scottish prisons. Critics, including Mrs Constance, say the SPS figures are an “under- representation”.

Canfor Pulp Income Fund (the “Fund”) (TSX: CFX.UN) announced today that Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership (the “Partnership”) in which the Fund has a 49.8% ownership, has moved its 2010 maintenance outage at the Prince George Pulp Paper mill, previously planned for April, into the first quarter. This is being done to coincide with unplanned maintenance requiring the shutdown of the mills recovery boiler. The total duration of the shutdown of the boiler is expected to be approximately 20 days and the total reduced pulp production in the first quarter is expected to be approximately 15,000 tonnes, including the 4 days and 3,600 tonnes previously scheduled for the April outage. Operation of the paper machine during part of the shut down period is expected to mitigate the financial impact of these outages to a reduction of EBITDA of approximately $6 million in the first quarter, including an estimated $2.5 million impact of the 2010 planned maintenance outage.
This additional maintenance outage is not expected to have any impact on the level of distributions declared by the Partnership or the Fund.

LOS ANGELES — Thomas Properties Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: TPGI) reported today the results
of operations for the quarter and year ended December 31, 2009.
“Last year was one of the most difficult ever for the real estate
industry and the impacts were felt across the board in all sectors,”
said James A. Thomas, Chairman and CEO. “Even in this environment, we
were able to increase cash flow as evidenced by improvements in the
fourth quarter, and we favorably restructured some of our debt and loan
terms to better position our properties for the future.”
The results of operations presented in this release include a
consolidated net loss for the three months ended December 31, 2009 of
$(7.7) million or $(0.30) per share compared to a consolidated net loss
of $(7.7) million or $(0.33) per share for the three months ended
December 31, 2008. The consolidated net loss for the year ended December
31, 2009 was $(21.6) million or $(0.86) per share compared to $(5.5)
million or $(0.24) per share for the year ended December 31, 2008.
Included in the consolidated net loss for the three and twelve months
ended December 31, 2009 are pre-tax, non-cash impairment charges of $4.4
million and $13.0 million, respectively, related to the Murano
condominium project, and $14.0 million and $16.0 million, respectively,
related to joint venture investments.
After tax cash flow (ATCF) for the three months ended December 31, 2009
was $2.5 million or $0.10 per share compared to after tax cash flow of
$0.5 million or $0.02 per share for the three months ended December 31,
2008. The increase in ATCF for the quarter ended December 31, 2009 over
the prior year period resulted from an increase in gains from sales of
condominium units at the Murano property and a reduction in interest
expense, partially offset by reductions in property net operating income
and net revenues from the investment advisory management, leasing and
development services business. ATCF for the twelve months ended December
31, 2009 was $8.2 million or $0.33 per share compared to ATCF of $22.5
million or $0.95 per share for the twelve months ended December 31,
2008. The reduction in ATCF for the year ended December 31, 2009
compared to the prior year primarily resulted from a decline in gains
from sales of condominium units at Murano and a reduction in property
net operating income. The Company defines ATCF (a non-GAAP financial
measure) as net income (loss) excluding the following items:
non-controlling interests, deferred income taxes, non-cash charges for
depreciation and amortization and asset impairment, amortization of loan
costs, non-cash compensation expense, straight-line rent adjustments,
adjustments to reflect the fair market value of rent, and gain from
extinguishment of debt. ATCF is further described in note (c) to the
financial statements below.
Thomas further stated, “We have accomplished a number of financing and
capital transactions, reducing our consolidated debt balances by $69.7
million at December 31, 2009 compared to December 31, 2008. Also,
subsequent to year end, we negotiated on behalf of the California State
Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS), our partner in City National Plaza
in downtown Los Angeles, for CalSTRS to acquire all $219.1 million of
mezzanine debt on that property. CalSTRS will contribute this debt to
the partnership’s equity, reducing the leverage on the property from
$568.0 million to $348.9 million, all of which is first mortgage debt.
We are in discussions with CalSTRS to obtain an option to participate in
the loan purchase, on or after the maturity of the mezzanine debt, based
on our current pro rata share of 25% of the existing City National Plaza
equity. We are confident that the increased equity, together with the
property’s substantial cash reserves, will facilitate the refinancing of
the mortgage later in 2010.”
Chartwell Seniors Housing Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX: CSH.UN) announced today results for the three months and year ended December 31, 2009.
2009 HIGHLIGHTS:
Same property net operating income (”NOI”) decreased $0.3 million or 0.7% for the quarter ended December 31, 2009 compared to the same period last year. For the year ended December 31, 2009 same property NOI decreased $0.9 million or 0.5% compared to last year. The implementation of rent increases on renewal and turnover, increased ancillary revenues, and targeted cost reductions partially offset the negative impact of reduced occupancies, property and commodity tax increases, and a one-time increase in vacation and benefit cost estimates compared to the prior year. Same property occupancy was 91.8% in the fourth quarter of 2009, up 0.5 percentage points from the previous quarter of 2009 but down from 93.1% in last years fourth quarter. For the year ended December 31, 2009 same property occupancy was 91.6% compared to 93.3% in the prior year.
In the Canadian Retirement portfolio same property NOI decreased $1.0 million or 4.3% for the quarter ended December 31, 2009 compared to the same period last year. For the year ended December 31, 2009 same property NOI decreased $1.8 million or 1.8% compared to last year. The NOI declines are primarily attributable to lower occupancies, particularly in the British Columbia portfolio, as well as one-time increases in estimated liabilities for employee vacation and benefits recorded in the fourth quarter of 2009. Same property occupancies in Ontario were healthy at 93.1% in the fourth quarter of 2009, up from 92.1% in the third quarter of the year and lower than 94.1% in the fourth quarter of last year. Customer traffic and expected future arrivals maintained positive trends and management is optimistic that this improvement will translate into continued increases in occupancies in 2010. In addition, the spillover effect from significant waiting lists for long-term care beds in the province should continue supporting the increased demand for retirement suites. Performance in the Quebec portfolio continues to show steady growth with same property average occupancy improving to 88.6% in the fourth quarter of 2009, up from 87.8% in the third quarter of 2009 and from 85.5% in the fourth quarter of last year. In Western Canada, while Alberta occupancies remained strong, continued oversupply conditions in two British Columbia markets, combined with reduced occupancies at one long-term care community, resulted in same property occupancies declining to 90.3% in the fourth quarter of 2009 from 91.0% in the third quarter of 2009 and 95.0% in the fourth quarter of the prior year.

In reaction to the 2010 Canadian federal budget announcement, Deloittes senior tax leaders today commented on a number of measures as they relate to Canadas revenue generation and international competitiveness, and offered considerations for strategic tax measures to improve Canadas business climate. Though it was largely predicted to be a “stay-the-course budget”, a number of key items tabled today will impact many Canadian businesses in the year ahead.
“The minister announced a lower-than-forecast, but still recession-fuelled, $53.8 billion deficit, which pales in contrast to the deficits in the United States. and the United Kingdom,” explains Andrew Dunn, national Tax leader, Deloitte. “This brings the federal debt-to-GDP ratio to just under 34% – a multi-year high and well-above the governments own 25% target. The budget outlines continued, but declining, deficits over the next five years, starting with a still very high 2011 deficit of $49.2 billion.”
“Although short on details, the minister resisted the temptation to defer scheduled corporate tax reductions over the next two years and laid out a credible multi-year roadmap to deficit reductions over the next few years,” explains Dunn.
While there is no denying that the global economic outlook has improved since January 2009, when the last budget was introduced, there still appears to be a bumpy road ahead. The minister predicts real growth in the economy of 2.6% in the 2010 calendar year and 3.2% in 2011.

and deadly series of events that have led to the recalls.
Toyota was forced to shutter almost all of the companys production
operations as it worked to come up with a solution to the faulty braking
systems that have claimed at least 39 lives in recent years. While Toyota
dealerships are struggling to fix the millions of vehicles affected by the
problem, Toyota has determined that every new model that the company
produces will include a new brake-override system by the end of the year.
What does this mean for the future of Toyota? The automaker has set itself
back at least a decade in terms of customer confidence and sales. Toyota
wanted 2010 to be the year that it solidified its first-place position in
the automotive world and distanced itself from other automakers in regard
to sales. But now sales are suffering greatly, opening the door for
General Motors Corporation (GM) (Detroit, Michigan) to grab the No. 1 slot
again.
It is going to take at least a year for Toyota to begin recovering from
this series of mistakes. The company has already begun a massive ad
campaign aimed at reassuring consumers that Toyota does indeed put quality
above sales, although the facts do not support these claims. The company
will have to continue this campaign for years to come as it struggles to
recover the sales that have been lost.

Preparation of a Family Communication Plan is key to surviving any disaster. Says Slepcevic, “In the plan, list who to contact in the event of an emergency and ways to do so should normal communications be disrupted or family members get separated. In addition, each family member should have a 5-day Disaster Kit for their vehicle with food, water, clothing and additional emergency supplies.”
Additionally, he recommends that every family draw up an Emergency Evacuation Plan with a location to meet outside the city limits, should roads become inaccessible or their home become uninhabitable. They should also designate an emergency phone number for messages to be left every 4 to 8 hours, as needed.

The loan amount can be up to $2 million with a 4 percent interest rate
and terms up to 30 years. The SBA determines eligibility based on the
size of the applicant, type of activity and its financial resources.
Loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each
applicant’s financial condition. These working capital loans may be used
to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills that
could have been paid had the disaster not occurred. The loans are not
intended to replace lost sales or profits.

enables guests to access the Web, make dinner reservations, view maps,

Another technological marvel for guests is the new Clearwire USB
WiMax modem, offering broadband to go for business travelers. A
limited number of the modems may be rented for $25/day, with unlimited

Lihir Gold Ltd (LGL) (TSX: LGG)(NASDAQ: LIHR)(ASX: LGL) has entered into an agreement with Castlemaine Goldfields Limited for the sale of the Ballarat project in Victoria.
LGL will receive A$4.5 million in cash plus an additional 2.5% royalty interest(i) in future production, capped at A$50 million. The sale is subject to certain conditions including Castlemaine shareholders approving the issue of new equity to raise a minimum of A$20 million.
Castlemaine has indicated it intends to take the Ballarat operation forward as an exploration project, and will therefore cease mining and processing for the immediate future.
In preparation for the transition to new ownership, the operation will be wound down and placed on care and maintenance from today. Redundancies will be offered to affected employees. LGL will provide full entitlements and support services to employees and their families, including outplacement assistance.

A Jackson County jury determined that a neighborhood association was 30 percent liable for a residents fall on an icy road. On Nov. 30, 2006, at about 1:30 p.m., Ed Mason was trying to walk across his cul-de-sac in the Woodbridge Homes neighborhood to deliver a newspaper to his neighbor. There had been an ice storm in the area early that morning and the forecast called for heavy snowfall that afternoon. The road in the cul-de-sac was icy, and Mason fell. He was admitted to St. Josephs Hospital, where two CT scans of his head were taken. The first indicated intracranial bleeding and a subdural hematoma. The report from the on-site radiologist said the hematoma appeared to be five to seven days old. Masons wife, Sarah Mason, said he had fallen a week earlier and struck his head on a piece of furniture while visiting their son in Denver. She said he did not show any symptoms at the time of the fall. A follow-up CT scan taken four hours later showed that the subdural hematoma had begun to bleed. Mason then underwent a craniotomy to relieve pressure on his brain. The treating surgeon said he believed that the hematoma was caused by the accident earlier that day. At trial, the plaintiffs alleged that Woodbridge was responsible for maintaining the common areas of the subdivision. They claimed Woodbridge should have treated the ice on the streets with sand or salt in between the ice storm and the snowstorm. They also claimed that Ed Mason continues to have some cognitive difficulties as a result of the fall. Additionally, Sarah Mason filed a loss-of- services claim.

The Breast Screen Waitemata Northland unit, which began operating this month, sets the standard for mobile breast cancer screening using digital and satellite technology.
The units new digital technology processes the picture within seconds, and beams it, via the iNetVu® mobile satellite antenna located on top of the vehicle, to radiologists in Auckland.
The BreastScreen unit was integrated with the iNetVu® mobile antenna system by C-COMs reseller Farmside, who is also the satellite service provider for this application. Farmsides CEO, Tony Baird said the mobile breast screening unit was another example of how satellite technology can deliver for rural areas an immediate and very cost effective application, made possible by the iNetVu® mobile antenna.
“To deliver the best in health and education services across New Zealand we need to be able to utilise technologies that are equivalent to those available in the cities,” he said. “In this case satellite has met an immediate need and is literally helping to save lives.”
Richard J. Giusto, a shareholder with international law firm Greenberg Traurig P.A., has been named to the Board of Directors of the I Care I Cure Childhood Cancer Foundation, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to finding gentler cures for childhood cancer.
